Bruno Urgel Turcot (Turcotte) baptism record. October 1831

Translation:

Today on the 6th of October 1831, our underlined priest has baptized Bruno Urgel born of the legitimate marriage of Joseph Turcot, Farmer and of Marguerite Brien dit(called) Desrochers of the parish St Pierre du Portage dit (called) L'Assomption. The godfather was Augustin Chevaudier dit ( called )Lepine. The godmother Marie Domitille Brien dit (called) Desrochers maternal cousin of the child, who as well as the father have signed. (their names) F. Perrault, Priest

A dit name is essentially an alias, or alternate name, tacked on to a family name or surname. Dit (pronounced "dee") is a French form of the word dire, which means "to say," and in the case of dit names is translated loosely as "that is to say," or "called." Therefore, the first name is the family's original surname, passed down to them by an ancestor, while the "dit" name is the name the person/family is actually "called" or known as.

Thanks to LS for the translation.
